The Bala Lake Railway have announced that steam locomotive ‘Holy War’ has been withdrawn from service.

The locomotive has been withdrawn as her 10-year boiler ticket has come to an end, meaning her parts, and boiler, need checking over ready for another 10 years taking passengers along the lake.

Holy War hauled her final trains over the Bank holiday weekend at the ‘s Mini Steam Gala.

The Hunslet steam locomotive is a resident locomotive at the Bala Lake Railway, arriving at the railway in 1975.

It is hoped that Holy War will return to steam in Spring 2019.

Whats the need for an overhaul?

Steam locomotives work incredibly hard hauling passengers around, and all the parts need a repair or clean up every now and again. Running repairs are carried out when they can, but parts do need repairing and cleaning up to make sure they are spick and span ready for being really useful engines once again for another ten years.

Can I help?

The work is lengthy and requires money to carry out the work. Being a volunteer railway, the Bala Lake Railway thank everyone for donating. If you would like to donate to the railway to help bring Holy War back to steam, then please click here.
