The North Norfolk Railway has announced that they have had to postpone its Autumn Steam Gala. This is due to the risk of lineside fires.

The recent dry weather, which has made the NNR have diesel hauled trains of late, is still affecting East Anglia.

The event has now being re-scheduled for the weekend of Friday 12th – Sunday 14th October 2018.

Steam locomotive No.70013 Oliver Cromwell is still set to be the star guest at the re-scheduled gala. This is the final time to see the locomotive at a gala as its boiler ticket runs out on the 31st December 2018.

The organisers are currently in discussion with the owning group of a second locomotive which is hoped to visit us to join 70013.

What did the officials say?

The NNR’s General Manager Andrew Munden said:

“with the dry weather set to return through August and into September, we have had to make the difficult decision to re-schedule the gala which usually takes place in September. With a number of areas of vulnerable landscape along the Sheringham – Holt route, including a Biological Site of Special Scientific Importance at Kelling Heath, we feel that we have a duty of care and that it is of the utmost importance that we protect the delightful countryside and our neigh boughs property that we run through”.
