The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust has announced that they have an exciting opportunity for its base in Darlington in the role of Engineering and Workshop Manager.

The maintain and operate A1 steam locomotive No.60163 Tornado as well as building P2 steam locomotive No.2007 Prince of Wales through the P2 Steam Locomotive Company.

The successful applicant will also take a lead in the construction of a third locomotive.

The role will be based at Darlington where the company has dedicated workshop facilities. There may need to be travel from time to time to visit operating locomotives and suppliers, sometimes overseas.

The successful applicant will be good in the management of engineering project and will be experienced in leading teams. Experience of steam locomotive engineering would be an advantage but not essential.

The role also requires a hands on engineering activity & management and administration skills.

The salary for this role is around £35,000 a year dependant on experience. More may be available for an exceptional candidate.
