What did the officials say?

Graham Heald, ScotRail Alliance Head of Customer Experience, said:

“I’m delighted to see The Open return to the fantastic Carnoustie Links, and ScotRail is excited to be part of such a global event. With a spectacle like this on our doorstep, services will be very busy.

“To help things go smoothly, we’re adding extra stops at Carnoustie and more carriages on many of our trains.

“We’re also asking all customers using Carnoustie station to take a few moments to buy tickets and plan their journeys in advance, as this will make their journey easier on the day.”

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Executive Director – Championships at The R&A, said:

“We are looking forward to a wonderful week of outstanding golf at The 147th Open at Carnoustie as the world’s best golfers compete for the famous Claret Jug.

“The course is easily accessible by rail from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, and Aberdeen, with the station only a few minutes’ walk away from the entrance.

“Many thousands of fans will travel by train and we will be working hard to ensure they have a memorable and hugely enjoyable time at golf’s original championship.”
