The Bala Lake Railway have announced that steam locomotive Palmerston will be visiting the line in June 2018.
The locomotive will be hauling trains on the narrow gauge line on the 21st, 23rd and 24th June 2018.
Palmerston is visiting the line, which runs alongside Bala Lake from Llanuwchllyn to Bala, to haul their service trains due to all of their resident locomotives going on holiday to the Ffestiniog Railway, where Palmerston is based, for their Hunslet 125 gala.
Locomotive Marchllyn will also be making an occasional guest appearance on service trains.
A brief history of Palmerston
Built by George England Iron Works in East London, steam locomotive ‘Palmerston’ was completed in 1864. The steam locomotive was used on both the Ffestiniog Railway and the Welsh Highland Railway before being withdrawn in 1937. After a lengthy overhaul, Palmerston returned to steam in 1993, currently one of two George England Locomotives in steam at the Ffestiniog Railway, along with ‘Prince’, which is soon to be joined by ‘Welsh Pony’
