The group looking after the Union of South Africa Facebook page have announced that steam locomotive No.60009 Union of South Africa has passed its boiler exams.
This now means that the A4, sister locomotive to world-famous Mallard, will be able to resume mainline operation.
No.9 will be hauling passenger services this weekend at the East Lancashire Railway alongside other locomotives in operation.
Unfortunately, No.60009 will not be moving to Southall until the 13th June 2018, thus meaning the trip to Cardiff on the 14th June 2018 will not be hauled by the locomotive, instead, Black 5 No.45212 will be hauling this railtour.
No.60009 will pick up its mainline workings on the 16th June 2018 where it will haul a train to Worcester.
The locomotives intended visit to the Mid Norfolk Railway has been unfortunately postponed until a later date, which will be announced soon.
