East Midlands Trains have announced that temporary timetables are now available for the biggest upgrade to Derby station since the Victorian era.
Network Rail is working together with East Midlands Trains and CrossCountry to make sure it is convenient for passengers to continue travelling whilst this big upgrade takes place between the 22nd July and 7th October.
The upgrade will support better journeys between Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham and London.
Temporary timetables are available for:
- CrossCountry services to and from the North, South West, South and Wales
- East Midlands Trains services between Sheffield and London St Pancras (Timetable 1)
- East Midlands Trains services between Matlock and Newark Castle (Timetable 3)
- East Midlands Trains services between Crewe and Derby (Timetable 5)
- Timetables also include times and pick up and drop off locations for all rail replacement bus services so customers can plan their journey from start to finish.

What did the officials say?
Ed Akers, the Principal Programme Sponsor at Network Rail, said:
“This is a huge investment into the railway in Derby and will provide benefits for the thousands of people who travel to, from and through Derby station every year.
“The work is part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade and, once completed, will provide a more modern and reliable railway for passengers.
“We know that this type of work can impact on passengers and we’ve worked extremely closely with both CrossCountry and East Midlands Trains to minimise the impact of this. We’d like to apologise to passengers in advance and thank them for their patience whilst this huge upgrade takes place.
“The newly released timetables will allow passengers to plan ahead and we would advise them to check before they travel.”
Jake Kelly, Managing Director, East Midlands Trains:
“It is good news all the temporary timetables are now available so customers can plan their journeys with confidence. Timetables are available to view and download from our dedicated customer website, www.derby2018.co.uk, and are also arriving in stations so you can pick up a copy too.
“Our message to customers is Derby remains open throughout these works and everyone should continue to travel with confidence. We are working hard behind the scenes to ensure we have extra staff, signs and help for all customers while this important improvement work takes place.”
Andy Cooper, Managing Director, CrossCountry:
“We understand that information is vital in helping customers plan their journeys during engineering work, so having the timetables ready now for the work at Derby is great news.
“These works are important as they will deliver a bigger and better railway at Derby, benefitting the region and people travelling to, from and through it. This partnership approach with CrossCountry, Network Rail and East Midlands Trains will ensure all rail users have access to information about any changes and can plan their journeys with confidence.”
