The Corris Railway has announced that it has held a successful gala day on Sunday 27th May 2018 with both diesel, battery electric and steam locomotives in action.

Heavy rain showers in Dulas Valley meant that the planned gravity train was cancelled. Apart from this, it was a successful day for all, visitors and volunteers alike.

Steam locomotive No. 7, battery electric No.9 and diesel locomotives No.6 and 11 were all on duty hauling trains throughout the day. No.6’s overhaul had only been completed a week before the gala and had some problems with axle box heating, but managed to run throughout the day taking ‘rest’ periods.

There was plenty to look around at Maespoeth Junction where the Signal and Telephone Office was the place to go for cakes and refreshments, which proved popular with passengers.

A number of trains ran from the gradient on the new section south of Maespoeth and ran non-stop to Corris. The sound of No.7 chuffing off the gradient proved popular with everyone.

Visitors to the gala were a mix of holidaymakers on a day out and also enthusiasts who had come to see the progress on the .

The volunteers are now looking forward to the Summer, including the Model Railway Exhibition on August 26th and 27th.
