The Stanier Mogul Fund has released their latest update on their overhaul of steam locomotive No.42968.
Frames
Repairs to the frame are now complete. The first coats of primer paint have also been applied. Work can now begin to replace the components which have been removed in order to allow the coats of primer to be applied.
Running plate
The section of the running plate above the repair work had to be taken out by the volunteers. This is now being replaced with new steel, this is because the original holes had worn down to an oval shape
Cab
The cab side on the left-hand side of the locomotive has been positioned temporarily. This is to allow alignment checks to be made and also to allow mounting holes to be drilled in the new supporting steelwork behind. Similarly, the rear panel has been replaced with the holes it, this will support the rear of the cab’s floorboards and tender fall plate.
Additionally, the rear stanchion has been trial fitted. The job of this is to support the cab side sheet and holds the door to the tender, though this wasn’t fitted this time.
The cab footsteps are now ready for painting and fitting, though they cant be fitted yet as the jack beam is in its way.
Frames
The swivel pin for the pony truck is now bolted back into place and is now awaiting the riveters to come.
The sidebars are now marked up and await fitting.
Wheels
The wheels have now returned from the South Devon Railway and have now begun transferring back into black.
