World famous locomotive Flying Scotsman will be back in steam on the mainline and will be passing through Manchester and Keighley on Thursday 17th May 2018.

The A3 locomotive is on a light engine movement. 60103 is moving from the East Lancashire Railway, in Bury, to the National Railway Museum, in York.

The movement on the national network is to allow the steam locomotive to be in York ready for its role as the locomotive for an upcoming railtour from York to Edinburgh – more information on that available here

The steam locomotive will stop at Manchester Victoria at approximately 08:10 for a five-minute break, before heading off to Preston (at 09:17) and the West Coast Mainline.

From Preston, the Flying Scotsman will take the West Coast Mainline to Carnforth via Lancaster.

After a break and refuelling at Carnforth, the locomotive will then make its journey through Lancashire and Yorkshire via Bentham, Long Preston, Hellifield, Keighley, Shipley, outer Leeds, Church Fenton, where it will then steam through York before arriving at the National Railway Museum.
