This morning, train operating company, Heathrow Express, has introduced some new changes to its ticketing system.
From the 20th May 2018, TfL Rail, a new stopper service, will operate from London Paddington to Heathrow Terminals 2,3 and 4 – this replaces the Heathrow Connect service.
In preparation for this, Heathrow Express will be changing some of its terms and conditions to bring it in line with other national rail services.
Below are the changes that Heathrow Express are bringing into use from today:
Travel Direction
Tickets must now be used for the direction of travel that they were booked for. Example: a ticket from Paddington to Heathrow now cant be used for travel from Heathrow to Paddington.
Single Ticket Validity
All single tickets are only valid on the date of travel on the ticket when purchased.
Return Ticket Validity
All return tickets are valid for:
- Outbound journey: Must be completed within 5 days of the date of travel on the ticket.
- Return journey: Must be made within 30 days of the date of travel on the ticket.
Peak Travel Times
Heathrow Express Peak hours will now be:
- Morning Peak   0630 – 0930
- Evening Peak    1600 – 1900
Ticket Barriers Installed at Heathrow stations
From 20 May 2018 ticket barriers will be in operation at Heathrow stations. You will still require a ticket to pass through the ticket barriers. HE will accept oyster and contactless payment from September 2018.
Important change to your Carnet Ticket
Your existing Carnet ticket will no longer work with the new ticket barriers being installed.

Ah but Heathrow Express will soon be replacing the Class 332’s and to use some of the modified Class 387’s from next year that will be used on Paddington-Heathrow Central, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 direct services. With a shuttle service between Heathrow Central and Terminal 5 to be taken over by Elizabeth Line Class 345’s that could operate a shuttle service between Terminal 5 and Heathrow Central stations. Unless Heathrow Express could retain the shuttle service and to use 1 Class 387 on that route between the 2 stations.
Aswell the Class 360/2’s that are also to be replaced.
