The Dean Forest Railway has set up a Just Give Crowdfund page in order to raise funds to purchase two new carriages for the line.

Background

The line has been offered two ex-British Railway Mark 2 carriages. With the railway currently extending its track to Speech House Road and further, new coaches are key in order to run a longer line.

The two Mark 2s, W5341 and M5292, are in very good condition, being active on the mainline recently, and would only require the fitting of vacuum brakes in order to be used on the .

£60,000 is the price for both coaches. The Society and its members have raised £12,000 of their own money to put towards the full cost, with a further £48,000 now being needed.

In the situation where the railway can’t purchase the coaches, the money raised will be used to repair and maintain current carriage stock on the line.

Can you help?

Almost £4,000 has been donated so far, but there is still a long way to go. Any donation would be appreciated by the railway, with certain benefits being given on certain amounts donated. These are the following:

  • £250 or greater – will receive a 5 year Membership of the Dean Forest Railway Society
  • £500 or greater – will receive a 10 year Membership of the Dean Forest Railway Society
  • £1,000 or greater – will receive a Life Membership of the Dean Forest Railway Society

A great cause and every little helps

  1. Update from the DFR Society on this appeal – Thanks for all the support so far – the total fund now stands at around £17k, so we’re over halfway to the first coach! Very grateful for any further donations!
