The Weardale Railway has announced that the project to extend the station at Witton-le-Wear has been completed.
The project was completed in Early April.
The additional materials were purchased by the Weardale Railway Trust earlier in the year and the work was completed by Trust volunteers.
The new extension was put to good use in the recent Class 31 Gala weekend on the 21st and 22nd April 2018 with plenty of passengers using this to get to Bishop Auckland for the Food Festival.
It was also used to travel on the more intensive train service that the railway operated over the weekend.
The additional length now also allows Heritage Services to operate the 2-car Class 108 unit to the station in the future.
