A brief history of 34081 ’92 Squadron’
’92 Squadron’ was released to traffic in September 1948, and became the 101st Bulleid Pacific to be completed. The locomotive was initially allocated to Ramsgate shed. The locomotive had a working life around Kent and the surrounding area. 34081 became redundant when the Kent coast electrification was completed and was sent to Barry Scrapyard as a result.
The locomotive was purchased by The Battle of Britain Locomotive Preservation Society in 1973 at a cost of £3,500. The tender was acquired from No. 34028, which later ran in preservation on the Swanage Railway. In 1976, a low loader took 34081 ’92 Squadron’ from Barry Scrapyard to Peterborough where she was on display for a while until being restored to steaming condition. The locomotive returned to steam publicly on the Nene Valley Railway in February 2017. 34081 is painted in BR Malachite & Sunshine Livery (The only operational Light Pacific in the UK to be so)
