The Golden Valley Light Railway has announced the Butterley Park station track work has been completed this April 2018.

This work now allows the Golden Valley Light Railway to run trains of 3 coaches in length.

The trains will run with Ashover coach No. 4 and ex Ffestiniog coaches 119 and 118.

Unfortunately, before the work was completed, the platform at Butterley Park was not long enough to take 3 coaches.

What work has been done?

So 6ft of the platform is being added to the west end of the platform. Another problem was that if a train is on the platform with 3 coaches, there was not enough room to run a locomotive round.

The King Point at the east side of the station has been moved 12ft further away. This now gives the required clearance.

At the west end of the station, the two points that were associated with the run around loop have been moved eastwards. This means the railway has two long sidings which may, in the future, be covered by a building to provide some storage space.
