Network Rail reminding Cardiff residents of upcoming railway bridge refurbishment

Network Rail are reminding residents of Cardiff of the upcoming work to refurbish Glamorganshire Canal bridge in Llandaff North as part of ‘s Railway Upgrade Plan.

The essential repair work to the railway underbridge, which crosses Ty Mawr Raod, will include steel repairs to strengthen the bridge. Plus a deep clean and painting.

Single lane traffic management will be in operation on Ty Maw Road from 7 am on Monday 30th April until 7 am on Monday 7th May 2018.

The road will then be temporarily closed to all traffic from 7 am on Monday 7th May 2018 until Friday 3rd August 2018.

Access to pedestrians and cyclists will remain open throughout the work.

What did the officials say?

Mathew Tanner, project manager for Network Rail Wales and Borders said:

“This essential refurbishment forms part of our Railway Upgrade Plan and will ensure Glamorganshire Canal Bridge will remain safe and viable for years to come.

“We will continue to work closely with Cardiff Council and other partners to ensure disruption to the local community is kept to a minimum and this renewal work is completed in as short a time-frame as possible.

“We would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while we complete this essential work.”

  1. Is this also part of the electrification in the Cardiff area and parts of the Welsh Valley lines to also be electrified as the GWML electrification to Swansea might happen. If it gets the go ahead to electrify to Swansea.
