Train operating company, c2c, has announced that it is running more services, longer trains and providing free travel for runners this Sunday for the London Marathon.

has added over 20,000 seats to its normal timetable, including 15 extra trains into London in the morning and back again after the event.

More than 60 services are also being doubled in length for the day, as they will be running as 8 carriage trains rather than 4.

All runners participating in the Marathon can also claim free travel with c2c on the day, just show your runner number or your finishers medal instead of a train ticket.

The TOC is also running a ‘volunteers special’ train on Sunday for members of the Pitsea Running Club, who have volunteered to steward the Marathon on the day.

What did the officials say?

c2c’s Delivery Director Joel Mitchell, who is one of several c2c employees running in the Marathon this Sunday, said:

“I can honestly say I know what a massive event the Marathon is for everyone who’s taking part – and their families! That’s why at c2c we are putting on extra trains and more carriages this Sunday. We’ll be doing our best to make sure that getting to the start line or to see your loved one run is the last thing that people need to worry about on the day.”
