The North Norfolk Railway (NNR) has announced that British Railways (BR) Standard 2 (2-6-0) No. 78018 will be the second visiting guest for the Railway’s Spring Steam Gala in April.
Also, BR Standard 4 (2-6-4T) No.80136 won’t be attending the Gala.
Brief History of 78018
Restored in October 2016, 78018 is one of three preserved members of the BR Standard 2 (2-6-0). A fourth member, 78059, was saved but has since been used in the reconstruction of a BR Standard 2 (2-6-2T). More information on this project can be found here
78018 is based on the Great Central Railway, where the Loughborough Standards Locomotive Group spent four years finishing the restoration of the engine.
The locomotive has visited other heritage lines since restoration was completed, such as the Nene Valley Railway.
About the North Norfolk Railway’s Spring Steam Gala
78018 becomes the second visitor to the Gala. BR Standard 4 (2-6-4T) No. 80104 will now be attending the gala, due to No.80136, from the same class, being unavailable to attend the gala.
Both join NNR’s Homefleet, which feature BR Standard 4 (2-6-0) No. 76084 and BR Standard 9 (9F) No. 92203. To add to these four BR Standards, No. 90775, a War Department “Austerity” 2-10-0 designed by R. A. Riddles, will also be taking part in the Gala.
Other home fleet engines attending the gala include London & North Eastern Railway B12 No. 8572 and Great Northern Railway N2 No. 1744. This event will be added to RailAdvent’s Events Calendar later this month.
