The Great Central Railway Nottingham (GCRN) has announced that Hunslet-class steam locomotive No. 2890 “Douglas” will be operating trains on the line throughout 2018.
About Douglas’ stay at the GCRN
Currently based at the East Lancashire Railway, Douglas is privately owned.
Douglas is due to arrive at the GCRN in Mid-March, where the engine will operate for the rest of the 2018 season.
There is a possibility that Douglas will haul trains in 2019 as well.
History of Douglas
Originally built as a 0-6-0ST for the War Department, numbered 75041. In preservation, renumbered 2890 and named Douglas, the engine was rebuilt as 0-6-0 tender engine, based on No. 10 Douglas from the Thomas the Tank Engine programme.
The engine currently wears NWR Black (North Western Railway – as featured in Thomas the Tank Engine).
