The Amerton Railway, in Staffordshire, has announced that steam locomotive Kerr Stuart ‘Sirdar’ Class 0-4-0T “Diana” (Works Number 1158) will be operating on the line for the 2018 season.

About Diana’s visit

Diana is due to arrive at the line this month. The engine should be ready to haul trains over the Easter period.

The tank will haul all trains over Easter, with both Bagnall “Isabel” and Hunslet Wren “Jennie” undergoing overhauls. It’s hoped that Diana may also take part in some photo charters while visiting the line.

A brief history of Diana

Diana was built in 1917 to operate in central Wales on the Kerry Tramway. After a varied history, Diana was purchased in 2014 by a volunteer from the Talyllyn Railway. Her restoration was completed by the Vale of Rheidol Railway, in Aberystwyth.

She was based at the Bala Lake Railway when she was completed. At the BLR, she was found hauling passenger trains on the narrow gauge railway in North Wales, which operates alongside Llyn Tegid / Bala Lake. For her centenarian, she went on tour with visits around the UK including the Leighton Buzzard Railway, in Hertfordshire, and the Ffestiniog Railway, in North Wales (for their Quirks & Curiosities 2 event)
