The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust have announced that issues with the AWS System on A1 No. 60163 ‘Tornado’ have been resolved.

The problems caused Tornado to be piloted by a class 66 diesel locomotive on the North Briton mainline tour.

It was not easy to diagnose the fault as it was an intermittent fault. Such fault has never appeared on Tornado or any other locomotive fitted with the system

The A1SLT have said that they are “grateful to Sharpe Engineering Solutions, Locomotive Maintenance Services and Thales for their help in diagnosing the problem”.

What has been fixed?

A minor modification to the electro-pneumatic system by the A1SLT has now resolved the issue and Tornado can now steam on the mainline safely again.
