The General Steam Navigation Locomotive Restoration Society has released their update for January with lots of exciting news.
South Devon Railway Engineering
The first step has been made on producing the new crank axle for 35011. The flawed plain axle and crank pins have been removed, leaving both wheels. South Devon Railway Engineering will now carry on to the next stage.
Whistle Valve Acquired
The most recent part purchased by the society is the whistle valve. This part was bought from the Battle of Britain Locomotive Society (Owners of 34081 “92 Squadron”) thanks to the donation from Alex Clements.
The main reason for purchasing this part so early in the restoration of 35011 was the good price paid.
Which Events will the Society be Attending?
The first event of 2018 the Society will be attending is the Mid Hants Railway’s (The Watercress Line) Pre-Spring Gala. Their stand will be set-up in Ropley’s new waiting room on the up platform. The next event being the Swanage Railway’s Spring Steam Gala.
Next Working Party?
The 1st to the 4th of March will see the next working party at Sellindge take place. A number of tasks are planned to be carried out. These are removing more boiler tubes, lubricating axles, securing lose parts and trial fit parts obtained.
