An update on the overhaul of 5239 Goliath, which is taking place at the East Somerset Railway, with a view to the locomotive being returned to steam.

Good progress has been made in stripping down 5239 Goliath to start overhauling components.

Early December saw the Hydraulic Crosshead Splitter being used to separate the Piston Rod from the Crosshead.

A week later, the Smokebox had all its contents removed, the final piece to be removed was the Superheater Header.

Mid-December work continued with the Cylinders, with the removal of the Piston Valves. The Boiler Tubes, both big and small have been cut and removal almost complete.

Boxing Day for Goliath

The Frame only had one more Component to be removed by the 17th of December. The last Component to be removed from the Frame was the Vacuum Brake Cylinder, taken out on Boxing Day.
