Penhelig Station, on the Cambrian Coast line, is to shut for 3 months in 2018. This is because engineers will be working to replace the timber platform.

The improvements will be that the station will have improved access for all users. The Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) station will only require minimal maintenance.

At the same time as the platform being rebuilt, engineers will be working on Copperhill Street and Penhelig tunnels.

Arriva Trains Wales will be providing an ‘On Request’ taxi service during the work.

To find out more about the work, users of the station are invited to a Network Rail drop-in event. It will be held at the Penhelig Arms hotel restaurant from 3 pm – 7 pm on Monday 11 December 2017.

Chris Wildy, works delivery manager for Network Rail Wales and Borders, said: “The work taking place at Penhelig station will see passengers benefit from better facilities, including an improved platform and new lighting. We would like to thank passengers for their patience as we work to upgrade the station. We will continue to work closely with our partners at Arriva Trains Wales to make sure passengers can get to where they need to be during the temporary closure.”

David Crunkhorn, the station manager for Penhelig and the Cambrian line, said: “The upgrade work at Penhelig Station should make a real improvement to the area for now and years to come. We’re pleased to be seeing this investment in one of our most picturesque communities and we are really looking forward to seeing its completion and the benefits it will bring to local people and visitors alike. While it is taking place at a quieter time of the year to minimise the impact on customers, we still recognise the impact this closure will have and there will be a taxi service in place to the nearest station.”
