Recently work on 34101 Hartland, which is based at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway has focused on major boiler work, which is being carried out South Devon Railway.
The South Devon Railway have become specialists in repairing Bulleid boilers. This lead to the decision for 34101’s boiler to be sent to them. Which will ensure it’s repaired to the highest standard.
The work required for the boiler is a renewal of the Inner Firebox, replacement of Outer Side Sheet and replacement of Outer Doorplate.
All the new parts have been manufactured and should be fitted to the boiler between now and early next year. This is when the boiler is due back.
Once returned back to Grosmont MPD, the boiler can receive work such as re-tubing. This will allow it to get it ready for being lifted back onto the Frame. The Frame has already received a lot of work, with the Smokebox and Cab attached and ready for use.
