The (SVR) have announced that ‘Warship’ No. D832 “Onslaught” will join the line up for 2018’s Spring Diesel Festival.

The Class 42 belongs to the Bury Hydraulic Group, who are based on the East Lancashire Railway (ELR).

The visit is more special as the SVR is home to the only other surviving ‘Warship’, No. D821 “Greyhound”.

History of D832 “Onslaught”

D832 was one of the later ‘Warships’ built at Swindon Works, and first entered traffic in February 1961. D832, like the rest of the ‘Warships’, didn’t last long before withdrawal, only lasting for just under 12 years. Luckily, D832 was saved and moved to the ELR, not long after the ELR was set up as a Preserved Railway. Since then, D832 has been a star attraction on many lines it has visited.
