The London Underground has had successful testing on new signalling which will be installed on the tube next year.

The new system will mean quicker and a more frequent service from 2021.

The new system will allow trains to run closer together and will mean a more frequent service around the capital and will boost capacity for the Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines.

Testing took place between Hammersmith and Latimer Road featuring three of the new S stock trains.

Mark Wild, the Managing Director of London Underground, said: “This is a fantastic step forward in the vital programme to modernise nearly half of the Tube network. The new signalling system will provide our customers with more frequent trains and quicker journeys, as well as improving reliability and improving customer information. We are making improvements for our customers all over the network and this programme represents a hugely significant part of that work.”

More testing will be in Decembder with the installation of the new signalling continuing throughout the year.
