A new railcard is set to be offered to 26-30 year olds from December – ahead of a wider rollout next year.

Greater Anglia will be the train operating company to test the railcard out, with the company confirming 10,000 railcards available to test.

Though, Rail Delivery Group has refused to comment on whether the wider rollout plan is correct. Although they havent commented, the Association of Train Operating Companies has been registering a number of websites which are related (example being 26-30railcard.com) which suggests a wider rollout is likely in the near future.

Details on the new railcard and how it will work are still underwraps.

It isnt yet sure whether it will be exclusive to the Greater Anglia network or available on all routes.

The new railcard is likely to cost around the £30 a year price, similar to other railcards.

Chris Reilly, who is Managing Director at MyVoucherCodes, said “It seems 26–30 year olds will have access to a new railcard from early 2018 that offers them a discount on train travel, if a leaked memo is to be believed. This is great news for younger people because the usual discount railcard gives a third off rail fares for those aged 16–25, which means it runs out right at the age that many people start to pay for more, whether that be moving out from their parents or commuting as they start their professional careers.

He added “The new 26–30 Railcard will help millennials save more money and hopefully help them to put the money elsewhere. Millennials are especially savvy online when it comes to discount codes; they have learned how to be smart with money so we expect they’ll pounce on this railcard if it does get rolled out.”
