Tomorrow, Thursday 5th October 2017, sees the start of the Autumn Steam Gala at the Great Central Railway, with the event being held until Sunday 8th October 2017.
The gala will be Southern themed and will commemorate 50 years since then end of steam in the Southern Region.
An intensive timetable will be in operation throughout the weekend (possibility of 90 movements at Loughborough on Saturday/Sunday)
Two visitors are expected to make their way to the gala. Newly overhauled BR Class 73156 will be running as 73084 ‘Tintagel’.
The other two visiting locomotives are both ‘Battle of Britain’ class of locomotive, with No. 34081 ’92 Squadron’ visiting from the Nene Valley Railway, and also No. 34053 ‘Sir Keith Park’ which is visiting from the Severn Valley Railway.
These three visitors will join the home fleet of 6 locomotives to make 9 locomotives in steam throughout the weekend. Joining the visitors are:
- Ex-GWR No. 6990 ‘Witherslack Hall’
- BR 9F No. 92214 ‘Leicester City’
- BR Stanier 8F No. 48624
- BR Ivatt Class 2 No. 46521
- BR Standard 2 No. 78018
- BR Fowler 3F No. 47406
