2017 will see the East Coast Mainline hold a ‘World First’ event as Flying Scotsman will join a trio of Virgin Trains East Coast High Speed Trains in a parallel running in the same direction on the ECML north of York.

The A3 Pacific will be joined by Virgin Trains and their trio of High Speed Trains for a few miles along the Mainline which runs from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh Via Peterborough and York.

Joining 60103 will be a VTEC Class 43 HST, a VTEC Class 225 Intercity (Class 91) and the new VTEC Class 800 ‘Virgin Azuma’ – which is the revolutionary new High Speed Train which will be launching in 2018.

The aim of the special is to showcase the movement of train travel on the 200 mile railway.

The special is ran by Virgin Trains, Network Rail, Welcome to Yorkshire and the National Railway Museum.
