Steam locomotive Diana will be visiting the Apedale Valley Railway for their 2017 gala on the 13th and 14th May 2017.
The Gala will mark the centenary of Kerr Stuart Locomotive ‘Stanhope’. Kerr Stuart Loco Works were based in Stoke on Trent, this will mean Stanhope will be in steam less than five miles from where she was built!
The gala is planned to have a Kerr Stuart theme, and the line up will definitely show this. Steam locomotive Diana will be visiting from the Bala Lake Railway, and her owner Phil Mason will also be visiting.
Diana is also celebrating a centenary in 2017, and is the only type of the locomotive in Europe (Sirdar), with the other preserver Sirdar in Namibia.
What does the Chairman of the Moseley Railway Trust Say?
Phil Robison who is Chairman at the Moseley Railway Trust said “We are all looking forward to bringing Diana home to Stoke-on-Trent; the Stanhope Steam Gala looks like being another really good weekend at Apedale. The MRT has developed a reputation for top-notch railway galas, and we are expecting this to be no exception!”
More details of more visiting locomotives will be announced later on in 2017, and we will have a full news article closer to the time – but admission prices will be £6 for adults and £3 for children.
