In this short video, we see Double Farlie 0-4-4-0 ‘Earl of Merioneth‘ and 2-6-2T ‘Lyd’ depart Porthmadog with a Birthday Special trip on the Welsh Highland Railway.
Lyd
‘Lyd’ is a replica of the L&B locos in Devon and is based on ‘Lew’ which is the lost engine of the original Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. 2-6-2T Lyd is the newest loco to be built on the Ffestiniog Railway, having been completed in 2010.
Earl of Merioneth
Earl of Merioneth was built in 1979 at Boston Lodge Works and is the second oldest Double Farlie currently on the railway. The loco was built as a replacement (incorporating the power bogies and some other parts) for No. 3 Livingston Thompson. The loco is due to be taken out of service and will be replaced by new build 0-4-4-0 ‘James Spooner’.
