This weekend, the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG) will be celebrating 50 Years of existence this weekend with a Gala with all the Locomotives owned by the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Locomotives owned by NELPG

The NELPG was founded in 1966 with a view to preserving some of the steam locos working in the north east. In 1967 the volunteers raised enough money to buy J27 0-6-0 No. 65894 and Q6 0-8-0 No. 63395. The locomotives were transferred to the NYMR in the 1970s. In 1972, the group acquired two other locos, which were K1 No. 62005 (Donated) and in 1979, they were offered th Q7 0-8-0 No. 63460 (Long term loan from the NRM). In 1983, they bought Tank Engine J72 No. 69023 ‘Joem’ – they took charge of A2 Pacific 60532 ‘Blue Peter’ in the late 1980s (long term loan).

NELPGs aim is to have as many locos in steam, rather than a museum piece, in fact all 6 locomotives have been returned to steam. 62005 and 60532 have had many trips on the main line. 65894, 63395 and 69023 have seen service on preserved railways as well as on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
