In this weeks ‘Throwback Thursday’ we see Steam in the form of No. 61994 The Great Marquess at Preston on a Steam Excursion.

Built in 1938, No. 61994 was built to run on the West Highland Line, in Scotland, this is because it could cope with the steep gradients that this route represents. At the building of this loco, the trains were double headed (This used more coal) No. 61994 could handle the route on its own.

No. 61994 The Great Marquess on The Fellsman

When the picture was taken, No. 61994 was running ‘The Fellsman’ on Wednesday 19th of June 2013 and was steaming from Lancaster – Preston – Settle – Carlisle and return – ran by Statesman Rail.

The locomotive is currently based at Thornton Junction, in Scotland. The loco also completes two round trips a day through the summer (Fort William – Mallaig) as part of ‘The Jacobite’ Railtour.
