Episode 40 of our popular series ‘Throwback Thursday’ sees us look back at a previous post on Railway Adventures. We look back to August 2014 as we take a visit on the Corris Railway, we covered this trip in our second post on the website. You can see the original post on RailAdvent by clicking here
Our locomotive for the day was No. 7 which is the only steam locomotive on the line. The Corris Railway is fundraising to build a new falcon locomotive – find details of this by clicking here
The Corris Railway isn’t running every day as we have now reached Low Season, please see a timetable for more information or see their website for running days and the train times. Tickets cost £6 for adults and a family ticket is just £15.
History of the Corris Railway
The Corris Railway runs from the village of Corris along the Dulas Valley to the railway works at Maespoeth in Mid Wales, UK. The original Corris Railway opened in 1859 and ran from Derwenlas (South East of Machynlleth) onto Aberllefenni via Corris. The railway served the quarries (slate) at Corris and Aberllefenni.
The railway closed in 1948, but in 1966 the Corris Preservation Society was formed in 1966, with initially just the museum being opened before a short section of track was laid between Corris and Maespoeth.
Corris Railway and Train Simulator
In 2016, Dovetail Games released their version of the Corris Railway to Steam for their popular game ‘Train Simulator 2016’ (later released as Train Simulator 2017). You can find out more information about the route and how to buy by clicking here
