Although the weather was rather horrible, our contributer Jamie Duggan still popped to Nene Valley Railway for Southern Steam Gala.
Jamie based himself at Wansford station, which was rather quiet, which probably was largely due to the weather, which gave him many chances to take pictures.
Sadly, 34091 “92 Squadron” wasn’t on display when he went down, I believe 46521 was out working further down the line. Jamie’s photos include 30541, 73050 “City of Peterborough” (minus name plates) and 75008 “Swiftsure”.
75008 Swiftsure
Built in 1943, 75008 Swiftsure was built by Hunslet Engine Co. – ‘Swiftsure’ moved to the Nene Valley Railway earlier this year on loan and is operated by Rail and Road Steam Services Ltd. ‘Swiftsure’ is from the War Department and is running in the WD Green Livery. Moved from the East Lancs Railway.
4F No. 30541
No. 30541 is a Mansell Q-Class and was visiting the Nene Valley Railway from the Bluebell Railway – where an overhaul started on the locomotive in July 2011, which was complete by the Loco Works Working Group. The Loco was finished in April 2015 with BR Livery and carrying the number 30541.
No. 73050 (Not In Steam)
No. 73050 ‘City of Peterborough’ is a steam locomotive which is owned by the Peterborough City Council and is operated by the Nene Valley Railway on a 99 year lease. The loco was withdrawn from National service in 1968 and is now awaiting a restoration by the Nene Valley Railway.

More Pictures
Here are some more pictures of Jamie’s visit.
This post couldn’t have been possible without the help of Jamie Duggan, who helped write this article and went the NVR for the pictures. Thanks Jamie!
