We recently featured the news that the Welshpool and Llanfair railway had received a grant to help with wheelchair access (see here for more info)
Following on from this, we are pleased to hear that the North Yorkshire Moors Railway has also received a £60,000 grant, from the Department of Transport to help towards the £160,000 cost of restoring a 1st Class Pullman Carriage.
The carriage, named Garnet is from 1961 and the restoration will allow the railway to run a regular Pullman Dining service to Whitby.
Work required includes bodywork repairs, chassis overhaul and repair/reinstallation of the interior and a complete repaint.
An appeal will be launched to complete the required funding for the carriage.
