February 2016 Half Term in Wales – Take a Train Ride!

With half term upon us again, its always hard to find something to do to entertain the kids that dosent cost the earth and keeps them entertained for as long as possible.

If you live in or around North Wales, then why not consider a day out on one of the many steam railways…

In the summertime many of these railways operate every day, however this early in the season opening times vary, so check before you travel.

Bala Lake Railway

The railway runs between Bala and Llanuwchllyn and are operating trains on 14/16/17/18/20 February.

A return ticket for an adult costs £10.50, and family ticket combinations are available, e.g. 2 Adults and 2 Children (3-15) costs £25, children under 3 travel FREE!

The railway, based on the west coast at Tywyn is operating trains every day until the 21st February.

A day rover ticket costs £18 for an adult and £2 for a child aged 5-15, children under 5 travel FREE!

 

Ffestiniog  & Welsh Highland Railways

The railway, based in Porthmadog is operating trains every day until the 20th February. Whilst trains are not running to Blaenau Ffestiniog, the railway is running a service from Porthmadog to Rhyd Ddu.

A return ticket costs £25.10 for an adult and one child under 16 goes free with each paying adult. Children under 3 travel FREE!

Based at Aberystwyth, the railway is running trains all week until the 21st February.

A return ticket costs £22 for an adult, a child ticket costs £9, family tickets are also available and children 2 and under travel FREE! Tickets can be booked online.

On the west coast near Barmouth you will find the Fairbourne Railway. Trains are running every day until the 21st February.

A day rover ticket costs £9.50 for an adult with accompanied children (3-15) costing just £1, under 3’s travel FREE!

Situated in Llanberis just a few miles inland from the North Wales Coast, the Llanberis Lake Railway is running trains on 14/15/16 and 20/21 February.

An adult return ticket cost £8.20, and family saver tickets are available, e.g. 2 adults and 2 children costs £20.80, one child 2 and under travels FREE with each adult. Tickets can be booked online.

Right beside the mainline station at Betws-y-Coed you will find the Railway Museum and miniature railway.

A ride on the railway costs just £2 per person (under 2 free) and museum entry costs £1.50 for an adult and £1 for a child.
