(Good fireman never die)! Wonder how they fared long ago? Steam died a death end of 1965! My firing days at Bristol slowly diminished! Dirty overalls on diesel Western Prince etc! The dear old 800 Warship! (My bull nosed Bentley)? The faithful 7000 Hymek? (17 n 18 still about). And them peak things that didnt ever get excited? Throb throb and…

(As the Crow flies). Different events covered, But the same scene! But the traction from Broad-gauge and Vacuum Atmospheric of locomotion of 1846 to 1892 and the 4ft 8 and 1/2 gauge for todays steam engines are a few lazy wingbeats for todays Crow! (maybe give up its baton to a pigeon for its long onward flight to Plymouth though)? Because…

Ive just stuck my four penneth into a section of the main page about the Welsh accident recently and worry what others far more knowledgeable of it than I might think? Ive no memories of running by on diesel out of Bath road because on the Western, Hymek or Warship sorts you had such glorious vision! But rounding that right hand bend i once…

(So distracting)! I keep swinging around to watch Big Jet plane landings on my 48inch OLED tele (You Tube)! Very windy up country but they are on about Vickers Viscount or Brabazon aircraft? I’m sure when i would spend hours putting goods together with my old multi wheeled steam Austerity or 5 or anything at Bristol Filton? Or was it…

(Hasty times) And Gold price gone bonkers! My Krugerrand on Thursday made £1982! Now £2002 today? So what price Coal in this volatile world ? China and others increase consumption while we close another coal fired steel plant? Do Heritage club together to buy Coal in bulk? (Proportional of course to suit number of engines you have)! Spose its…

Comments not so frequent now! Dont know if anyone reads my stuff? But the beauty of talking to oneself is that you can never be wrong! That said, Clan lines lovely blue carriages are just passing the Devon nurse training centre on the left of shot! Back in 1960 this was a siding where Merchant navy Clan Line could run to when uncoupling from…

Senior fireman heeded! But Driver the boss! Shunting or banking to many different Branch lines from Adams, M7, Ivatt 2Mt, 82 standard to 8000 Riddles and suddenly the smokebox or ashpan didn’t need raking out? Ok with driver so i get home a little earlier after an 8 hour turn! But mother or me would clear our house fire grate each morn! Fire…

Possibly the best Branch engine going?

One of my earlier engines! When i saw a cab torch cut on an auction site, I had to have it! Daft really! (Its behind model of 9F matchstick engine)! In photo of Ivatt 41318 i see my driver walking the platform with his hands clasped behind him, Just as Prince Philip would do all those years ago!

(short yarn) 1963 GW combined with Southern region! If my driver disappeared for a couple days it might be a new traction or to learn a new route! So this special i’m firing (Only an 8000 Riddles but quite capable)! And driver briefs me with (We’re not stopping at Exeter)? Oh, That’s a bit different i thought? Southern / GW link with a Plymouth…

I wonder if Merchant Navy Clan Line or its footplate crew glanced 72A (Exmth jct) way as it sped over Posloe to Prince Charles road lane for Blackboy tunnel and Exeter Central? Still going fast here with heavy braking before Exeter city football ground! The supermarket car park (now) might make a good view point?
