(Mmm), Just wondered if any Ivatt steam footplate person might be near southern side of the Isle of Wight? A giant A 380 Airliner out of Heathrow is circling very low burning fuel for long time? Its flight to Miami aborted! I added the Ivatt bit so its a bit railway? With over 400 passengers its like a very full train in the sky? Doing…

(Sorry to go on) Clan Line (Below) Bit nostalgic really! Well just as the others of the fleet i spose? Leave home at 4am and pushbike twelve miles in wind or rain? 15 or early 16y old kid from school would clean or awake the giants! Never could explain the responsibility? Put it here, Put it there, Its going central tender first. But only (34s)…

(Headache or migraine)? Recent picture of 6990 Hall me n driver took to scrap along with 6916 in 1965! And smoke box shed plate (think) read 82E? But that Barrow road shed number became 22A in late 50s? Plus we took it from St Phillips Marsh (82B) in 64? So an American singers? lyrics of ‘Like a bouncy ball, She come bouncing back to me’ come…

I remember back in 70’s going to my mate’s before school and helping to fly and feed his Kestrel (sometimes the cat would join in), it would often climb high in the sky, surprising the old pigeon, then over the road to school and watching the fireless steam engines in the coal yard at the local power station. Then in the 80’s being accused…

(Leaf litter) Early morning ‘first train’ out might sometimes see me climbing down to our cabs lower step! Wheels spinning (Lack of adhesion), A little sand in our cabs bucket in my left hand! Invariably the wheels would bite at 5mph? ‘Ive got it’ shouts my driver! Its just the same old areas when leaf litter would fall! All locos had a…

(Horses for courses) I had several of the Riddle 4Mt sorts! 80037, 41, and 64, to memory? But the 82 standard 3Mt sort being allowed to be cut up with not one survivor beats me! Not very old? Not too many miles? And a very nice in between engine that would replace or merge in with the M7 or Ivatt 2Mt beauties! On branchline work i would have…

I have heard that the Haverton to Preston Bitumen tanker Train services (6M43 and 6E43) and the return are to stop at the end November this year.
Apparently there are declining volumes but it would take around 30 lorries to have replaced todays delivery, and cause 5 or 6 times the emissions of the train.
They are rumours that the reliability of…
