Sunday 13th October. Having booked to spend the day at the East Lancs Railway I was not able to drive myself there but managed to persuade my wife to drive me in the afternoon. My primary interest was to finally see the Jinty (as part of my project to see 75 operational locos to coincide with my 75th birthday … only 2 to go now)

There is a build up of weeds at Rawtenstall, but the ELR have a solution in the form of a locomotive called Douglas which regularly sets fire to the line side vegetation.

I feel for Werner of the visiting Switzerland group (Below)! Trains doors and windows locked? In all my days on the steam footplate no one stepped off a train at 60mph? I have been on two other steam railways. The Bo’ness % Kinneil Railway and the Strathspey Railway. There you could take photographs and the train was not so closely monitored by stewards.

The steam locomotive ‘Braunton’ (West Country Class light ‘Pacific’), made a great sight passing under Cardiff Road, Newport, South Wales on 19/09/2024, with the Welsh Dragon, Day 5 from Cardiff to London Paddington via Gloucester.
