A lot of what you have observed is down to the Health and Safety commission dictating that as the heritage service is running on Network Rail track then they have to abide to the same standards and regulations that all modern mainline trains have to adhere to. I’ve looked around & saw an article in the newspaper “The Scotsman” ( to the Scotsman, please don’t sue me, I’m just trying to inform people ) that a train went 20feet beyond a stop board near a level crossing.
