Two Castles! (sounds like a ‘two Ronny’ sketch)! They got away from Exeter St Davids (GWR) in fine style and sounding good! .With their Mayflower steam tour to Plymouth! An I K Brunel 7ft broadgauge plus Atmospheric line at one time? (early 1844 on)! But went standard gauge in 1892! These Pilgrim passengers will return, No Atlantic crossing…

Personally i’d put these up with A4s? Minus Flying Scotsman of course! Nothing come of the Southern trials that i can make out? Bulleids done ok? Mallard broke down? The time keepers may just as well stayed in the pub! Nothing was gained, Maybe Heritage conduct such a trial? They must know what coal consumption for the fleet of foot…

(TWO Castles tomorrow)! Edgcombe new to me, But i tended 7029 back in 64 / 65 at Bristol. Not long i add. But Dr Beechams 3rd pref rule would have every young fireman moving shed to see the country! So its this or Nine elms, And does the young lady i am to marry follow the rails to me? Or do i show my shovelling skills to our local council?…

I’m hoping to see them thunder through Yatton. Clive, will you be going out to see them? If you are, good hunting!

Sorry! But that mention of big mammals in Goa earlier, And i’m back to steam in 1960 on North Devon runs! My Driver screams out Whales! I’m across that footplate and my eyes are good to search for those magnificent Mammals! And all i see is sod all! No no he shouts, Cardiff Wales over there look! I lift my eyes over the wide Severn estuary…

If you call that thing a Mouse I would hate to see a Cat get loose

The winding river is so disparaging to the African hunter, A cat in the middle of nowhere? Foxes that stand their ground is creepy! Or too friendly pigeons.

I feel for Werner of the visiting Switzerland group (Below)! Trains doors and windows locked? In all my days on the steam footplate no one stepped off a train at 60mph? It could hurt a bit, Or at the very least mess your trousers up! People apt to do so should maybe stay at home! I admit to still looking both ways on an official…

The Jacobite steam service is sold as being the same as the one in the Harry Potter films, and it does romanticize it to the extent t hat you expect to be traveling in the same type of train, what people don’t realise is that the steam service is running under on normal Network Rail line and as such is governed by the same rules and…

I have been on two other steam railways. The Bo’ness % Kinneil Railway and the Strathspey Railway. There you could take photographs and the train was not so closely monitored by stewards.

(Standard 3Mt) Bristol Barrow rd shed, A span of yard, With nearby gassometer, And brick arched road running over it! 60 year or so ago a grubby urchin spotter would look down or stand the steps to take numbers on his way home from school! Possibly a 73 year old urchin now with a nice shower in his bathroom in his nice expensive house?…

If anything happened on my walk to picture a steam engine pass by! I could be missing for months!

(TT Steam) Invariably firing would start / finish at shed! Be it your own engine or another light engine movement, (steam taxi)? But sometimes a fellow fireman with an Ariel 1000 square four M/bike that he swore would do a Ton would offer a lift to or from Central! Fast, Very fast! Climbing on 92 Squadron was like my 2nd flying lesson of the…

Oliver Bulleid of the Merchant Navy, Westcountry, Battle of Britain Pacific mainline Southern region sorts? Apprentice to Gresley and Ivatt! (Married Henry Ivatts daughter). But a designer in his own right! Would eventually retire to a Devon seaside resort called Exmouth! Clean refreshing air and cheap beer? But only twelve mile from Exmouth…

(Total confusion), There’s an engine called Mayflower! Then separate from (Golden Hind). We (Steam crew) missed Southerns link to a warship hauled Paddington bound in 1960? Now Collets Castle Mount Edgcombe brings Mayflower West? Wish they put a headboard on and not just the tour group name or something! (For the benefit of the older folk…
