(Horses for courses) I had several of the Riddle 4Mt sorts! 80037, 41, and 64, to memory? But the 82 standard 3Mt sort being allowed to be cut up with not one survivor beats me! Not very old? Not too many miles? And a very nice in between engine that would replace or merge in with the M7 or Ivatt 2Mt beauties! On branchline work i would have 82s out my ears! Rocking bars a godsend at the end of a days work, I had 82010, 11, 13, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, and 82025! That i would early morning prep or put to bed after a busy day! Steep banks of 27 brick arches or the cliff contours to seaside resorts? 3/4 glass of water and a shovel of black stuff to the right spot was almost monotonous? The injector would sing to the merest drip from its exhaust outlet! I witnessed my drivers solo on a very smelly DMU, He lifted his hand to me and the throttle come deadman clicked a notch or two! and off he went, He didn’t even drive a car! He owned a pushbike! I wonder if he ever thought of me? I was back on the big shed and the big stuff! Maunsell, Bulleid etc? Dr Beechings axe! And something called the 3rd pref system? The choice of alternative sheds throughout the country?? Get that motorbike running reliably young man! Doh.
