• Has Mayflower got away from Taunton yet? Its due through YouTube Dawlish cams around Mid-day (12ish) today? But i see no times on mainline steam reports! I will put on the cam and hope its just a glitch!

  • Forgive me, but can I question the number of items which have been appearing recently on the community page that seem to be better suited to the news page? I find that I’m having to scroll through news items in order to find members’ photos. This has only happened since the roll-out of the new website.

Am I alone in finding it frustrating?

    • David, you are not alone! I also find scrolling through news items frustrating as there seems to be more news items than members photos. I realise that heritage lines are winding down and the weather may be preventing people from going out to photograph trains but the Community Page would be better used just for RA’s members.

      • Hi David

I know you emailed Michael about this yesterday afternoon but he was out of the office for the rest of the day so didn’t get chance to reply, so I thought I would reply here.

I have had a rough count up and just 11 out of 49 news articles have made it onto the activity stream in the last week, we choose which ones to keep on… Read more

      • Strange but there appears to be fewer new items in the community page today, you say that there was only one that appeared on the activity stream in the last week, but I observed a lot more than one and there were making it hard to look through the community page and interact. I was going to drop you a message about this but ended up being…

    • I feel for Werner of the visiting Switzerland group (Below)! Trains doors and windows locked? In all my days on the steam footplate no one stepped off a train at 60mph? It could hurt a bit, Or at the very least mess your trousers up! People apt to do so should maybe stay at home! I admit to still looking both ways on an official…

      • The Jacobite steam service is sold as being the same as the one in the Harry Potter films, and it does romanticize it to the extent t hat you expect to be traveling in the same type of train, what people don’t realise is that the steam service is running under on normal Network Rail line and as such is governed by the same rules and…

        • I have been on two other steam railways. The Bo’ness % Kinneil Railway and the Strathspey Railway. There you could take photographs and the train was not so closely monitored by stewards.
