GB Railfreight (GBRf) has announced that their contract to haul the Royal Scotsman train has been extended.

Following discussions with Belmond, who promote the Royal Scotsman service, it has been agreed that GBRf will haul the train for the next five years.

Like other train services promoted by Belmond, the Royal Scotsman is a prestigious train offering passengers up to four nights stay in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, along with the picturesque journey up and on the return.

With a maximum capacity of 40, each carriage feels like home with country house styling throughout, including mahogany cladding. For more information or to book your tickets, please visit Belmond’s website here.

This is brilliant news for GBRf, one of the UK’s biggest rail transport firms, specialising in freight traffic.

GBRf has accepted a few exciting contracts in the last few months and supporting existing customers throughout COVID-19 and UK Lockdowns and restrictions. Freight transport via rail plays a key part in supporting the economy.

Gary Franklin, Vice President, Trains & Cruises, Belmond, said: “We are pleased to continue our relationship with GBRf who have been excellent partners since 2015. We look forward to commencing the Royal Scotsman’s operations again in 2021 – offering truly exceptional journeys through the heart of Scotland.”

Managing Director at John Smith said: “We are absolutely delighted to be signing this contract extension with Belmond. As one of the UK’s preeminent luxury travel brands, we are honoured to continue working with them. Our existing relationship goes back to 2015 and to see it continue is a sign of how well we have cooperated over the years.

“This is also a good sign given the economic uncertainty businesses face in light of the third national lockdown in England. Rail freight has been one of the drivers of economic activity throughout this period and will be needed now more than ever to ensure we recovery quickly. By strengthening partnerships such as the one with Belmond we are doing our bit to put our economy back on track.”
