The have celebrated 70 years since the original arrival of No.3 “Sir Hadyn” and No.4 “” to their railway.

To mark this special occasion, the preserved line live-streamed via Facebook (available to watch below on the railway’s YouTube channel) No.2 “Dolgoch” hauling both No.3 and No.4 on Wednesday 17th of March 2021, exactly 70 years to the day since the key milestone back in 1951.

Both engines were purchased by the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society in 1951, which was then the world’s first preserved railway line, to operate passenger trains.

Both engines had run on the Talylln Railway prior to this.

No. 3 entered steam four months later in July 1951, with No.4 undergoing repairs at Kerr, Stuart & Co. Ltd before joining the serviceable fleet in 1952.

Since then both locomotives have hauled many trains along the line and are well-liked by both crews and passengers.

COVID-19 has forced the line to close but if the current government roadmap and advice is followed, the railway should be running passenger trains from  Saturday 1st of May 2021.
