Facelift for more than 30 Northern railway stations

As part of their ‘A Better Way to Go’ campaign, train operator Northern has completed work to repaint more than 30 railway stations on their network.

Over 9,700 metres of walls, waiting rooms, benches, railings, doors and window frames have been given a new coat of paint.

More than £800,000 has been spent on improving the look of stations in various ways and passengers can find out what work has been carried out at their local station using a new tool from Northern

The tool can be accessed on their website here.

Many improvements have been carried out as part of the campaign including:-

  • New fleet made up of 100 state-of-the-art trains
  • Another 240 trains have been fully refurbished
  • Industry-leading mobility scooter policy
  • Roll-out of more bodycam units for station staff
  • Improved CCTV on board and in stations
  • Car park refurbishments
  • Platform extensions

The latest railway stations to get a  new coat of paint are:-

Meols Cop, Burnage, Alnmouth, Flixton, Blackpool South, Disley, Goole, Mexborough, Northwich, Atherton, Hartlepool, Hebden Bridge, Wilmslow, Gatley, Redcar, Halifax, Kearsley, Mauldeth Road, Saltburn, , Chapel-En-Le-Frith, , Horsforth, Holmes Chapel, Brinnington, Hazel Grove, Guiseley, Stocksfield, , , Skipton, Knaresborough, Hale, , and Shipley.

Other work recently completed, includes a new shelter for Rufford Station, and car park improvements at Whitehaven.
