Railtrail Tours, based in Leek, has announced that they have won a major award at the British Travel Awards.
The company was voted Best Rail Holiday Company in the class for operators with fewer than 10,000 passengers a year.
14 staff are employed at the family-run firm at their Leek base, including founder Dave Felstead, son Paul and daughter Julie.
Owner & Managing Director, Dave Felstead said ‘it’s a truly magnificent honour to win gold as the Best Rail Holiday specialist because it is a premier national award and reflects on both the wonderful team, we have at Railtrail Tours and the outstanding support from our clients and supporters who have voted for us.’
Dave started the company after watching The Great Railway Journeys of the World on the BBC. Dave contacted former colleagues at Stoke station to set up a ‘follow in Michael Palin’s footsteps’ railway holiday, which was a great success and lead to further tours being organised.
Railtrail hopes to operate more tours in 2021 varying from 3 to 14 days in length, with longer visits planned to Australia and Colorado, COVID restrictions pending.
