Monday 15th February will see work start at St Mary Cray Station under the ‘Access for All’ programme.

Network Rail is working with Train Operating Companies (TOCs) to increase accessibility all over the country, with St Mary Cray Station in Kent, managed by Southeastern, next to receive work on improving the station.

Upgrades will include:

1. Two new lifts with exits each end and 16 people capacity
2. Apply tactile surfacing and new handrails on staircases
3. New access ramps
4. Upgraded cycling shelter
5. Two additional blue badge parking spots

These upgrades are scheduled to be completed in Autumn 2021, with the majority of building work to take place during the weekdays.

All efforts will be made to reduce the impact on passengers.

Network Rail’s Investment Director for Southern Region Paul Harwood said: “The ‘Access for All’ programme enables a significant investment in our stations in Kent and the wider Southern Region which will help all our passengers and especially those with mobility issues.

“St Mary Cray will have modern step-free access to its platforms for the first time, and dozens of other measures throughout the station will make access much easier for all passengers.”

Southeastern Station Manager for St Mary Cray Matt Hawken said: “At Southeastern we are committed to providing a safe and comfortable journey for everyone.

“A key part of that is how easily people can get around our stations and on or off the trains.

“This work at St Mary Cray means that another one of our stations will have step-free access. It does make a real difference to disabled people and those with heavy luggage or prams.”
